Kanowna, located in Western Australia 6431, is a historic ghost town situated approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Kalgoorlie. Established in 1893 following the discovery of gold, the town rapidly expanded, with its population soaring from 2,500 in 1897 to over 12,500 by 1899. However, as alluvial gold supplies dwindled and underground mining yields decreased, the population steadily declined. The railway station closed during the Great Depression, and by 1953, Kanowna was abandoned. Today, remnants such as the railway station platform, two cemeteries, and former mine workings serve as silent witnesses to its vibrant past. As of the 2016 census, Kanowna had a population of 10 people
